Edgar C. Crawford, 85, 2670 Turner Road SE, died Friday in a Salem hospital after a long illness. Born in Illinois, he moved to Salem at the age of 8. Using a horse and buggy, he was a pioneer mail carrier between Turner and Aumsville. He was in the transfer business for many years. He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors include the widow Martha; son Aubrey of Milwaukie; four step-children; four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Services are pending at W.T. Rigdon funeral home.

Survived by widow Martha Crawford, Salem; son, Aubrey Crawford, Milwaukie, Ore, Elmer Gripentrog, Portland, Earl Gripentrog, Salem; daughters, Edna Keith, Salem, Evelyn Crawford, Milwaukie, Ore; brother, Donald Crawford, Torrence, Calif. Four grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren also survive. Services will be held Monday, Aug 22, at 1 pm at the W.T. Rigdon Co, Cottage & Chemeketa NE. Interment Zena Cemetery.
