OBITUARY:
Hannah Phillips Barker, 67, died January 3 at her late residence on the family donation claim near Zena after a short illness. Funeral services were held January 6, and interment was made in the family plot of the Zena cemetery, following services at the Little church (Zena Community Presbyterian).
Mrs. Barker was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Phillips, who crossed the plains by ox team in 1845. She was born August 21, 1862, on the same claim on which she died. Those who survive her are her husband, Samuel Barker; her son, Roy E. Barker; one grandson, Samuel Joseph Barker; two brothers, Charles Phillips of Spokane and Samuel Phillips of Salem, and one sister, F. Cornelia Phillips Cauckner of Portland.

Funeral services of Hannah Phillips Barker, born in Zena 67 years ago were held Monday at 1:30 from the Zena church, with interment in the Zena cemetery close to her life-long home. Death occurred at the family home in Polk county late Friday evening Jan 31 [sic; Jan 3]. Mrs Barker was one of 11 children born to Mr and Mrs John Phillips, who came to the Zena district from st Louis, Mo, in 1847. In 1896 she was married to Samuel Barker, the couple making their home on part of the original Phillips donation land claim. In addition to her widower Mrs Barker is survived by one son Roy E. Barker of Salem, and three brothers and sisters: Samuel Phillips of Salem, Charles Phillips of Spokane Bridge, Wash, and Mrs Cornelia Kluckner of Portland. Mrs Barker was a charter member of the Spring Valley missionary society and a member of the Presbyterian church, first at Zena and then at Salem. She was very active in church work.
