DEATH CERTIFICATE:
OBITUARY:

We take the following particulars of the death of Mr Benj. White from the Statesman of the 25th inst: Early last week Mr. Benj. White, living just across the river in Polk county, was taken seriously ill. On Thursday his attending physicians Drs. Jeffrys and Davidson thought best to call additional aid, and sent for Drs Kinney and McAfee of this city. Thursday evening an intussusception of the bowels was made out, and it was decided that the only hope of relief (and that too a very slight one) was to cut down upon and open the bowels and draw out the “telescoped” parts. Mr White and his friends were made aware of his critical condition, and the magnitude of the operation, but with death looking them in the face, they were eager to grasp at the only chance. Friday morning Dr Kinney, assisted by Dr McAfee, performed the operation. After which Mr. White was comfortable, but the shock from so formidable an operation was great, and he being unable to rally, died five hours afterwards.
