Canada, is along with David W., age 3 yrs 5 mos, b. Illinois, and Carolyn J., age 8 months, b. Illinois. Also enumerated with the family is Carolyn Macdonald, identified as sister-in-law [of Walter], age 42, single, occupation physician, b. Canada.

1940 IL CENSUS – Frena McFurlin [sic] (42y, b Illinois) enumerated with husband Walter J. (44y, b Canada, naturalized, occupation insurance agent), 2 children, David (13y b Illinois) and Carolyn (10y, b Illinois) and Carolyn McDonald [sister-in-law of Walter] (50y, b Canada, single); family was living in same house in 1935

OBITUARY: 

A memorial service for Frue Macfarland, a Southwest Portland resident and former docent for the Portland Art Museum, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Portland's First Unitarian Church. Mrs. Macfarlane, 85, died July 12 in a Portland nursing home.
Mrs. Macfarlane was born in Chicago and resided there until moving in 1961 to Salem, where she was active in the Salem Art Association and a member of the city of Salem Humah Rights Commission.
After moving to Portland in 1971 she was a docent for the Portland Art Museum and was active inthe First Unitarian Church.
Mrs. Macfarlane is survived by a son, Dr. David. W. Macfarlane, Portland; a daughter, Carolyn N. Stauffer, Menlo Park, Calif., and six grandchildren.
Burial was private. The family suggests memorial contributions to the First Unitarian Church library fund or the Portland Art Museum.
