BIOGRAPHICAL (Brother's Anniversary):
Prominent McMinnville Couple Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary.
McMinnville, Or., Jun 29 - (Special) - The home of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Cooper, of McMinnville, was the scene of a delightful affair on Saturday, June 22, when they entertained in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary and arrival in Oegon.
Mr. and Mrs. Cooper were married at Centre Creek, Lawrence County, Mo., on April 26, 1862. Following the Civil War, in which he served from April 3, 1862, Mr. Cooper came to Oregon, fighting Sitting Bull ten years before General Custer met his fate on the Little Big Horn. In 1868 Mr. Cooper returned to Missouri and brought his wife to Polk County, Oregon. Forty-two years ago they moved to McMinnville, where they have since made their home. Mr. Cooper is the oldest member of Union Lodge, A. F. & A. M., of McMinnville.
Forty-eight member of the family were present at the reunion, which was featured by a bounteous feast. The dinner was followed by a talkfest on the lawn of the Cooper home. Mr. and Mrs. Cooper were the recipients of an automobile from their children.
Six of the seven children, accompanied by their little ones, were present to enjoy the occasion - Dr. Arthur S. Cooper, of Los Angelses; Dr. Paul B. Cooper, wife and daughter, of Yakima; Fred G. Cooper, cartoonist on Collier's Weekly, of New York; Mrs. R. W. Doane and son, of Palo Alto; Mrs. B. O. Laurerman, husband and two children, of San Francisco, and Miss Nellie Cooper, of McMinnville and Portland.
Besides these were the brothers - J. Cooper, of The Dalles; J. S. Cooper, of Independence; John E. Cooper, of Canby; E. W. Cooper, of Albany, and their only living sister, Mrs. Patience Craft, of Hood River. These, with their wives and families, including many of the second and third generations, constituted the happy company. Many leters and telegrams of greeting from absent relatives were read, as well as a cablegram from Lieutenant J. S. Cooper, Jr., with greetings from the boys in France. The gathering was entitled to 12 stars on its service flag, ranking all the way from private through Lieutenant, Captain and Major to Colonel.
Other guests were: Dr. Belle Cooper Ferguson, Portland; Nan Cooper Thomas and daughter, Mildred, Estacada; Prudence Cooper Bayley and Cyrus Cooper, The Dalles; Mude Cooper Ireland and husband, Clarence Ireland, Independence Ethylen Van Patten Cooper, little son and daughter, Independence; Mable Cooper Williams and husband, George M. Williams, Centralia; Frances Cooper Kraus, husband and baby; Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Mann and two children, Pendelton; Dr. and Mrs. E. A. Mann, Portland; Mrs. and Mrs. W. C. Gildow and two children, Albany.

OBITUARY: 

Funeral services for Mrs Nancy P, Craft, of Elk City, who died at the Eastern Star home at Forest Grove, were held in Portland Thursday afternoon. She was born at Rock Prairie, Mo, Feb 6, 1855, and crossed the plains with her parents, Mr and Mrs E.E. Cooper, in 1863. The family located in the Spring Valley district in Polk county and she taught school at Zena and West Salem before settling in the Hood River valley. She was married to Michael H. Craft in 1906. He died in 1930. Mrs Craft was a charter member of the OES chapter in Independence.
