OBITUARY: 

Leland E. Bassett, April 16, 1911-March 29, 2001

Leland Bassett, 89, of Salem died Thursday. 
He was born in Gates, was a log truck driver and owned and operated a Chevron service station in Mill City. He retired in 1975 and moved to Salem in 1976. He married Julia in 1933; she died in 1997. 
Survivors include his son, Maurie of North Bend; daughter, Rosalie Lemert of Waldport; brothers, Arthur of Sweet Home and Earl of Stayton; sisters, Dorothy Nye and Betty Shaw, both of Stayton; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Salem First Presbyterian Church, where he was a member. Arrangements are by Weddle Funeral Home, Stayton. Contributions: Willamette Valley Hospice.
