He was 85. Born to Newton and Grace Kane Williams in Scotland, Ark, he attended school and married Lera Sue Jones April 12, 1941 in his hometown of Scotland. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1991 and were married 58 years. He moved to Yakima, Wash, where he worked in the fruit orchards and fruit industry. He then moved to Mapleton in 1951, working in the plywood mill until her retired in 1975. Upon his retirement he and his wife took a trip across the United States visiting several different places, as well as going back home to Scotland, Ark. A member of the Florence First Baptist Church, he was one of its founders in 1963 and was very active in the construction of the present building in 1975. A Sunday school teacher and song leader at the church, he had a true love for his Lord. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and watching the Siuslaw River while sipping a cup of coffee every morning. He also enjoyed gardening and taking care of his roses and fruit trees. Survivors include his wife Lera Williams; son, Dan Williams; and daughter, Nelda Myers; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. There will be a celebration of his life at 2 pm on Wednesday, Feb 3, at the West Salem Four Square Baptist Church, 4750 Salem-Dallas Highway, Salem; and at 11:30 am on Saturday, Feb 6 at the Florence First Baptist Church, 1935 East 25th St, Florence. Private interment was held Feb 2 at Smith Cemetery in Monmouth. Farnstrom Mortuary handled the arrangements.
