OBITUARY:
Alfred L. Pfeifer, 1927-2007 Salem – He is survived by Marcella, his wife of 57 years and three children. Daughter, Becky Bradshaw and grandson, Michael (Kim) Bradshaw of Salem; daughter, Pam (Rick) Bunch and grandchildren, Brian and Ashley Bunch of Sparks, Nevada; son, Chris (Mona) Pfeifer and grandson, Trever Pfeifer of Salem. Al is also survived by one sister, Adeline Lind of Salem; and brother, Eldon Pfeifer of Beaverton. He was born in 1927 at Portland, Oregon to Emmett and Elsie Pfeifer. After attending Benson High School, he graduated from Glide High School in Glide, Oregon. This was followed by World War II Army Service. Upon returning from the Service, he enrolled and graduated from Oregon State University in Corvallis in 1950. While there he was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. At college he met Marcella Richards and they were married on September 3, 1949. Upon graduation they moved to Salem in 1950 and made their home there. His work career centered around sales, much of it involving real estate. Active in the community, he served as president of the Lions, Optimist, and Salem Board of Realtors. Teaching real estate courses at Chemeketa Community College was something he enjoyed. Working on boards, committees and chairing financial drives was a way he gave back to the community. Golf was his game, especially with his River City Sam RV Club buddies. You know who you are! Travel was a real love of both he and Marcella. Starting with backpacking on the Skyline Trail with his family and ending with touring many countries of the world. He was a learner, travel always had a purpose, to experience what he had read about a country or to delve more deeply into the history and antiquities of a country. Al was a gentle and kind man, always liked people. He had a special deep bond of love with his children. It gave him great joy to see them mature, start their careers and be such productive citizens. His children and grandchildren gave their father such support and love. Farnstrom Mortuary of Independence will be in charge of a private family service. Burial will be at Smith Cemetery in Monmouth, Oregon. On-line memorial at www.farnstroms.com. Statesman Journal, Tuesday, March 13, 2007, 5C
