He was born in Pike county, Illinois, October 25, 1861, and came to Oregon in March 1903, where he bought a farm near Lewisville. He joined the Christian church January 25, 1885, and three days later led to the marriage altar Miss Susie Cox. To this union were born four sons and one daughter, all of whom were present at the funeral. He also left a wife, three brothers and two sisters. Mr McKinney was a man of excellent character and had gained the affection and esteem of all his neighbors. He was buried from Smith’s chapel, Tuesday afternoon, Rev Beery of Monmouth officiating. McKinney, of Lewisville, Oregon, was called up higher, September 23, 1907. The funeral services were conducted by Elder A.A. Beery at the church in Lewisville, September 24, 1907. The house was filled with sympathizing friends. Charles H. McKinney was born in Pike county, Illinois, October 25, 1861, where he grew to manhood and received a common school education. January 28, 1885, he was married to Susan E. Cox. Three days preceding their marriage, they together gave their hearts to Christ, and their lives were dedicated to his service by Elder C.B. Newman, who also said the words that made them one. They said they wished to start life aright. March 1st, 1886, they moved to Curtis Co, Nebraska, where they lived until March, 1903, when they came to Polk county, Oregon, and located on the farm near Lewisville and where he died. To them were born four sons and one daughter, who with their mother survive him. Mr McKinney, until two months ago was considered one of the strongest of man and a hard working man, but disease cut him down. The symptoms were alarming almost from the first anmd heroic effort was made to save him, but with all his remarkable strength and determined will he succumbed. Charley was a good husband, a kind father, a fine neighbor and a splendid citizen. He was a man of unswerving faith in God, and while his life was perhaps not without fault, he died in the triumphs of faith. To many of his friends he expressed his willingness to go. Near the last he called about him his entire family and gave to each of his children a father’s blessing, and requested each to “live upright Christian lives” and meet him “in the world where parting is no more.” His mother and one sister live in Independence, also one brother is at present in a hospital in Salem. Shortly after coming to Oregon he with his wife was united with the Christian church at Independence where he still held his membership. He will be missed greatly throughout this part of Polk county.
