OBITUARY: 
Gale Stewart Welborn, May 18, 1917-May 11, 2001 Gale Stewart Welborn of Monmouth died on May 11 in Monmouth. He was 83. He was born in Salem to Clyde and Georgia Welborn. He graduated from high school and attended Oregon State University earning a degree in Forestry. He continued his education with two more years of schooling in officers candidate school in the Armed Forces and served as a Captain in the US Air Force. On Aug 16, 1964 he married Dana McGinn. He enjoyed all sports, gardening, foster-parenting and mostly he loved his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Cleone and Marjorie. Survivors include his wife, Dana Welborn of Monmouth; daughters, Erin Castro of Independence and Kathleen Cruzan of Astoria; son, Zachary Pendergast of Monmouth; two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be on Wednesday, May 16 at 11 am at Smith Cemetery in Monmouth. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ella Curran Food Bank in Independence Farnstrom Mortuary in Independence handled the arrangements. Itemizer Observer, Wednesday, May 16, 2001, 16A:3-4
