Rev. Burns was born September 20, 1866, of early Oregon pioneer parents. His early childhood was spent in Benton and Polk counties. Later he was engaged in the cattle business in eastern Oregon for six years. Returning to Polk county he operated a farm south of Monmouth. On November 22, 1893, he married Katherine P. Mann. To this union one son was born. In 1900 he entered school and prepared himself for the ministry of the Evangelical church and continued in the service until July 27, 1937, at which time he was stricken with paralysis from which he never recovered. He was preceded in death by his wife, September 4, 1934. He was one of nine children, two brothers and four sisters preceding him in death. Remaining to mourn his passing are one son, Harold D.
