Mrs Josie Bevens, wife of J.D. Bevens, of this city, died at the home of her sister, Mrs I.M. Simpson, near Airlie, at 9:30 Sunday morning, April 22. She had been ill just two weeks with pneumonia. Mr Bevens had recently purchased a farm near Jefferson and had moved out there from this city, but Mrs Bevens intended making an extended visit with her sister, Mrs Simpson before joining him there. She had been at the Simpson’s only a few days when taken ill. Mrs Bevens, who was a daughter of Mr and Mrs B. Morrison, pioneer residents of Polk county, was born near Dallas March 18, 1865. On September 2, 1883, she was married to J.D. Bevens, and they have made their home in this county ever since, the last few years in Dallas. She is survived by the husband and two sons, Claude E. Bevens of Marcola, and V. Virgil Bevens, a member of Company L, Third Oregon infantry, now at Vancouver Barracks. Two brothers and two sisters also survive. They are: James Morrison and Mrs Mark Embree of Dallas; C.L. Morrison of Elk City, and Mrs I.M. Simpson of near Airlie. Funeral services were held at the Simpson farm home Tuesday, at 11 o’clock, conducted by Rev Howard McConnell of the Dallas Christian church. Interment was in the Smith cemetery near Lewisville.
