OBITUARY: 
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in United Methodist Church in Hillsboro for Richard H. "Dick" Bond, who died Jan. 9 at age 81.
Mr. Bond was born April 1, 1917, in Cul de Sac, Idaho, and was raised in Monmouth. He graduated from Oregon College of Education, then taught eight grades in a one-room school near Wren and the following year taught in Sheridan. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy's Seabees. He was a firefighter at Camp Adair before returning to the Oregon College of Education to earn a bachelor's degree. He moved to Hillsboro in 1948 and taught eighth grade at B.W. Barnes School until 1953, when he became principal of Brookwood Elementary School. He stayed there for 14 years and was the principal of Peter Boscow and David Hill elementary schools before retiring in 1982. In 1945, he married Shirley Ann Seely.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Jeanne Bond Esser of Keizer and Susan LaTour of Salem; brother, Carl E. of Corvallis; and two grandchildren.
Private interment will be in Fir Crest Cemetery in Monmouth. The family suggests remembrances to the American Heart Association or a favorite charity. Arrangements are by Keizer Chapel Funeral Home in Keizer.
