Jesus M. Camero, Oct. 8, 1916-March 6, 2002
Jesus M. Camero of Monmouth died on March 6 in Dallas. He was 85.
He was born to Feliciano Camero and Hilaria Martinez in Mexico City, Mexico.
He moved from Mexico City to Edinburg, Texas when he was six months old.
He enlisted in the U.S. Air force in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He met Sadie Rita Leon in 1954 in Bellingham, Wash. They were married in November 1959.
They moved to Toppenish, Wash, and lived there until 1965 when they moved to the Monmouth and Independence area.
He worked as a custodian most of his life at Oregon College of Education, now Western Oregon University.
He was a member of St Patrick Catholic Church in Independence.
He enjoyed watching baseball and Spanish soap operas, playing bingo and poker, Spanish dances and telling childhood stories. Most of all he loved family gatherings.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sadie R. Camero; grandson, Jesse Valdez; and granddaughter, Ariana Arreguin.
Survivors include his sons, Ricardo L. Camero and Fred Camero, both of Independence, Rudy Camero of Salem, Jesse L. Camero and Jim Camero, both of Monmouth; daughters, Rosa Valdez and Diana Camero, both of Salem, Melinda Camero and Mary Arreguin, both of Monmouth; 16 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass was March 9 at St Patrick Catholic Church in Independence and burial was at English Cemetery in Monmouth.
Farnstrom Mortuary of Independence handled the arrangements.
