OBITUARY:
Died at her residence in Polk county, Oregon, April 29, 1872, of consumption, Mrs. Eliza Emily Collins, aged 60 years, 3 months, and 24 days. She was a daughter of Douglas Wyatt, one of the earliest settlers of Warren county, Missouri; was born in Kentucky, January 12, 1812; moved to Missouri when about twelve years of age; was married to Smith Collins, Dec. 24, 1830; with her husband and family crossed the plains in 1846 and settled near the Luckiamute River, where she resided until called to her reward. Excessive grief for the loss of her husband, who died about two years ago, brought on a pulmonary consumption which terminated in death. She was the mother of eight sons – Judge Collins of Dallas being the eldest – and four daughters. Ten of her children, with many grand and great-grandchildren, live to mourn her departure. At the fathers death, the children unanimously agreed that she should have and enjoy all of his estate – amounting to perhaps $20,000 – during her life, and his will was never opened until after her death. Mother Collins had been about thirty years a member of the M.E. Church.
